Planning ahead.

So I'm sitting here at work thinking about Christmas and all the goody temptations that I'll be faced with and thought maybe i should come up with some sort of plan. Something to help me deal with these temptations because lets face it will power will only work for so long.
I have no idea what I'm going to do but it's definately food for thought. I've already taken precautionary measures and only baked things that I can freeze easily so the little temptations are not sitting around begging me to eat them.
I think my best plan is to come up with something I can eat so at least I have an option outside of "no don't eat that"

  1. I think having a healthy back up is a good option. For chocolate lately, mine has been sugar free hot coco. Fulfills the chocolate craving and fills you up, plus it is mostly water so that's good for you. Not sure if chocolate is something you struggle with, but I'm sure you could find an alternative to most foods.

  2. Thats a great idea! Definitely prepare something healthy that you can eat in case all else fails.

  3. Having some things prepared ahead of time so that you aren't tempted to grab the first thing you see is a good idea.

A few years ago I found that I really didn't need to bake at Christmas time. It had become not only another added stress, but I (and my family) didn't need junk laying around. So far I haven't gained anything this holiday season and feel so much better knowing that the cookies aren't available.

  4. What I like to do is make "healthy treats"...cookies or candy using whole grains and natural sweeteners rather than refined flour and sugar. That way I don't feel deprived, and I am eating something more nutritious than I would be otherwise.
